2nd ISCaM meeting - METABOLISM and MICROENVIRONMENT in CANCER PLASTICITY - Venice 2015
Wednesday, 16 September 2015
The 2nd meeting of the International Society of Cancer Metabolism (ISCaM) was held in the Congress centre of the isle of San Servolo in Venice, Italy, between 16th and 19th September, 2015 and gathered 140 participants. This 4-day event covered several aspects of cancer metabolism that are involved in local and systemic aggressiveness, such as the interaction between cancer and stromal cells, microenvironmental changes, including extracellular acidification, and epigenetic modifications. Non-stop interaction among participants was ensured by the unique venue, a congress centre hosted on an isle of the Venice lagoon.
The meeting program was composed of 43 oral presentations,17 invited talks, and 44 poster presentations. Scientific highlights of the program included talks by the world-renowned personalities in the field, such as Paolo Sassone-Corsi, Pierre Sonveaux, Christian Stock, Claudiu Supuran, Angelo De Milito, Olivier Feron, Tokuhiro Chano, Robert J. Gillies, Michael Lisanti, Stefano Indraccolo, Paola Chiarugi, Laura Sciacca, Laure Bindels, Paolo Caliceti, Massimo Dominici, Elizabeth Maher, Michael Pollak. The attendance to face-by-face Meet-the Professor sessions (Professors: Robert J. Gillies, Elizabeth Maher, Angela Otto, Silvia Pastorekova, Michael Pollak, and Pierre Sonveaux) and the co-chairing with senior investigators were additional unique opportunities for young scientists to become a fully integrated active part of the scientific program.
Two ISCaM awards to the best communications was assigned to the young scientists Margherita Cortini (Italy) and Andrea Morandi (Italy).
A best poster communication award from the European Association of Cancer Research (EACR) was assigned to Martin Kery (Slovakia).
On behalf of the organizers of this meeting, I would like to thank all of you who contributed to success of this scientific event, and hope that it will motivate you to become ISCAM members and attend the next meeting in October 2016 in Brussels.
